Today’s sermon was the third in the series, “Love Came Down”. Pastor Dylan shared the scripture for this series, John 3:16-17. We are all familiar with John 3:16, but I for one, had not really paid a lot of attention to John 3:17. This verse reminds us God did not send Jesus into this world to judge but to save the world THROUGH Him.
The focus of the sermon was, “God gave His best gift to us so we would share the gift with others.”
What a powerful reminder to all of us. We are to love just as Jesus would. He loved those who were not Christians as much as those who professed to be His followers. We are to do the same, show unconditional love to the un-saved.
How do we love those who are not saved and maybe in a more up-to -date phrase, “the unloveable?” We all have encountered people that were hard to love, whether it be they were dirty, rude, blasphemous and the list could go on. We show them God’s love through us. Here is the hard part. WE must be sincere, practice what we preach, walk the walk, and put our feet to the ground.
Growing up in church, I loved being in the Christmas program, LOVED IT! To be honest, I don’t think I truly understood all the subtle contexts like I do today. But here is what I know and need to share with everyone I meet.
Jesus Loves You! Yes, You! Rich, poor, clean, dirty, quiet, loud, sober, addict- He loves you. God chose a young virgin, poor girl to become the mother of the Messiah. Her response, “Let it be.” Once the Messiah was born in a lowly stable, God sent angels to the fields to wake the shepherds. The Angels shared the story of the Christ child’s birth. They immediately got up and followed the star to Bethlehem. Shepherds! The lowest of all farm help. They smelled like sheep and yet they were the ones sent! When Mary saw them, it was as if she knew they would be the first to arrive.
Our challenge, as Christians, is to be the love of Jesus. It doesn’t require make-up, a new car, jewels, it just requires a sincere love of Jesus to pass the love of him through us to those who need him the most.

Merry CHRISTmas!
