Well everyone… the 21 day corporate fast The Well Church has been powering through is officially over. We’ve all been enjoying burgers, and fries, and slabs of ribs, and sushi, and milkshakes, and steak, and pancakes, and pasta, and- wait, what was I talking about? Oh yeah, HUNGER! Hungry, that feeling- that craving- for food that tastes so good and makes you excited, happy, and fulfilled all in one is the very same feeling we should be experiencing through our relationship with Jesus Christ.
Fasting takes spiritual strength and is a hard thing to persevere through; it is a wilderness and going through it can create such an amazing perspective through intimacy with our God. We as christians need to stay hungry. Stir up that craving to focus solely on the Lord and be with Him enough to have the feeling of euphoria in step with Him and not the material things of this world. If we’re not careful our emotions and feelings can get in the way and begin to justify our actions in the wilderness- a hard season of life. We need to show His power and presence in and through fasting by trusting in Him to bring us out of it with strength and knowledge.
Pastor Dylan’s focus was, “to stay hungry for God you must learn to crave the things of God.” He is the one who sets us apart on our life’s journey and that is when we preserve and trust, learn, and crave Him.
Psalm 63:1-4 (MSG) “God—you’re my God! I can’t get enough of you! I’ve worked up such hunger and thirst for God, traveling across dry and weary deserts. So here i am in the place of worship, eyes open, drinking in your strength and glory. In your generous love I am really living at last! My lips brim praises like fountains. I bless you every time I take a breath; My arms wave like banners of praise to you.”
Like David in this passage, we find ourselves in times of trouble and hardship- and that’s when we should be on our knees praising and praying to God. learn to praise Him in the storm so on the mountain top you can truly feel free indeed. Be(come) an unstoppable praiser.
John 4:7-14, 31-35 (MSG)
What are you hungry for? How many of us are thirsty for the wrong things? God wants to reveal Himself to you so you are not hungry and thirsty for the wrong things. God wants to use us. He will use us just like he used the samaritan woman; He will tell us to open our eyes and look right in front of us.
Matthew 5:6 (MSG) “You’re blessed when you’ve worked up a good appetite for God. He’s food and drink in the best meal you’ll ever have.”
The very VERY good food of this world will only eventually lead to bad gas and antacids. Jesus will never forsake us, stay hungry and persevere for the Lord!
