Today’s sermon was a continuation of our Phase 1 plan. As with any vision, there are many aspects of the planning stages. At The Well, we believe our church should be fresh and “in the now.” Last week, we looked at the new Re-Covery ministry- a ministry of Redemption. This week, we focused on what that Redemption ministry would look like and what we as a congregation will have to do to see that ministry to fruition.

As with any project, there is always a financial aspect to be discussed. While I have been blessed with time, talents and treasures, I was challenged to be mindful, praying for what God would have me to give financially to help build our new ministry. The dollar amount isn’t the important factor, but rather my obedience to the Lord to entrust my money to be blessed by Him. It’s not the amount given, but the spirit the money was given that is the true blessing.

Today we had the pleasure of learning about a vision that Steve and Berna Proffitt had a few years back, the creation of a coffee house called The Potter’s House. The Potter’s House is located near the MSU Campus and through God’s guidance and Steve and Berna’s obedience, the Potter’s House now serves 1000-1200 students weekly. They felt like this was their “backyard mission” to have a place that would stay open well after all the other campus ministries closed. They wanted a “positive” safe environment where the Word of God could be shared to any and all.

The Proffitts reconnected with long time friend, Samson, who is now an active employee of the Potter’s House. Samson not only makes fabulous drinks, but serves up some pretty good conversation to those who will listen.
The Well is planning on following Steve and Berna’s mission by opening a coffee shop at the Well. The coffee shop will be open during the week and welcome any and all who would like to drop by. Those who are involved in the Redemption Ministry will be given the opportunity to learn job skills to make re-entry into the job market easier. Good coffee, great conversation and God’s grace will be the theme.

It’s all about community- a community to bring people to Jesus. This sermon really spoke to my heart. I want to be a part of a church family who puts feet to the ground and actively becomes a part of God’s community. I want strangers to see me and think being a Christian is an awesome thing. I want people to see Christians can have fun and lead clean lives. I want people to see God through me!
